Animal of the week #3: Cockatoos

There are lots of kinds of cockatoos. I've seen 2 kinds: the Little Corella and the Galah .  I saw the Little Corella at the lake in the University of Queensland campus.  The Little Corellas are all white and their eyes look weird.  There are hundreds of Little Corellas and they make a lot of noise.  The Galahs (pronounced ga-LAR) are pink and grey, and a little white on its head and beak. If you call someone a "galah", then they're an idiot.  My brother is a bit of a galah.

  1. I love the birds. Do they make a lot of noise?

  2. Clio,
Can you distinguish the Corella from the Galah from the "noise" they make? From the pictures they look different not only in plumage but also in size. Are the Corellas bigger or was this a photographic distortion?
What are the "noises" like? Do they sound like birds chirping?

  3. Galah Emil!
I have been missing your postings! Did you get lost on the sand beaches?
How was the sand cricket? How different is the Australian football? Is it closer to the American or the European?
I also don't know what kind of animal a SLUG is. Is it among the fishes or the amphibians? Does it have any skeleton?

  4. Hi Clio
I know it's not the bird of the week - but I hear that you also see lots of magpies. We have mapgpies in London - in fact, there are tons of them in Battersea Park! I think they are not as aggressive here in my neighborhood as they are there in Brisbane, but I wonder if they look the same... if you can get a picture of a magpie, let me know... I will send a picture from here and we can compare.

  5. Great Pictures. How did you get so close to the cockatoos? Were they in a cage?
